MMO Gaming Mouse Designed for Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft

SteelSeries, manufacturer of professional gaming peripherals, announced a new MMO gaming mouse co-developed with Blizzard Entertainment. With a unique exterior that evokes the armored plating of Deathwing the Destroyer, the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm MMO Gaming Mouse delivers superior ergonomics and an intuitive button layout with advanced gaming functionality.

“Since the release of the original World of Warcraft MMO Gaming Mouse in 2008, we’ve received feedback from thousands of World of Warcraft players on how they’ve customized their World of Warcraft mice and what they would like us to do next,” said Bruce Hawver, SteelSeries CEO. “The new Cataclysm mouse is the result of that collaboration: it provides a wide range of customization options and delivers a more comfortable, intuitive, and ultimately better experience.”

Mouse Features

The new Gaming Mouse has a 14-button layout. Its design provides players with the ability to comfortably use all the extended buttons. Macros and controls can be assigned to all buttons directly from within the game. Together with its 16-million color illumination options, 4 pulsation levels, the ability to save up to 10 character-linked profiles in the software and 1 profile directly on the mouse, players have a wide range of options to customize their gaming experience.

The drag and drop software empowers players to:

  • Program all 14 buttons with more than 130 preset game commands
  • Create custom macros and/or use the in-game macro scripting language

The SteelSeries World of Warcraft: Cataclysm MMO Gaming Mouse technical specifications:

Best Use of USB ever!

June 15th, 2010

We’ve seen it all. Everything can be connected to a USB these days. There’s a Hamburger USB, a USB fan and even a silly USB aquarium. Basically, you can connect anything to a USB port, or so it seems. Most of these gadgets are stupid and useless – mostly good as a gag gift, I guess.

Today, though, I stumbled upon the best use of a USB I’ve ever seen – a USB Typewriter!

This Etsy seller offers a few models of lovely, vintage typewriters you can plug in your computer and use as an almost standard keyboard.

According to the creator of these wonders, the following functions are USB enabled: all letters, numerals, and punctuation marks, shift, capslock, return carriage, and spacebar. Most typewriters don’t have the number 1 installed, though.

If you have techno-fingers, you can also make your own USB typewriter, with this DIY kit.

I consider the keyboard to be one of the most important parts of a computer. That’s why I recently bought a model M IBM keyboard – and I enjoy it immensely. I can certainly see myself working with a USB typewriter – at least for certain tasks, such as writing. Of course, this isn’t a useful replacement for a proper keyboard, but still – a wonderful idea.

50% of iPad Users Also Use Windows

April 21st, 2010

It’s not surprising to discover that not only Apple worshipers bought the iPad. After all, Apple has already sold over 500,000 units, so it’s only logical to assume some of them don’t own only Macs and iPhones.

The surprising fact, however, is that according to Chitika Research, about 50% of iPad owners have a Windows computer in their home.

Chitika checked the IP addresses of iPads that used the Chitika network and searched out what other devices came from the same addresses. They limited the results to IP addresses with 5 or less devices seen. The results are based on a sample of over 74 thousand iPads.

Does this mean more Windows users are willing to give Apple a chance, or is this true just when it comes to sexy products like the iPad? And what will happen when Windows-based tablets start appearing in the market?

In the mean time, Apple’s stocks continue to rise, after an impressive quarterly report, and the story about the “lost” iPhone prototype continues to attract interest. The headlines are all Apple these days – and I guess they’ll continue to be this way for a while.

Geeky Gifts: Light Up Your Room with a Lightsaber

April 8th, 2010

We all want a lightsaber, that much is obvious. You didn’t realize, though, that you also want one to light up your room! This very cool Star Wars Lightsaber Room Light has 7 different light colors and can be mounted on the wall. The colors and lighting can be changed via remote control.

This geeky gadget will be available soon from BigBadToyStore.

I wonder what would Obi-Wan Kenobi say of the use of a Lightsaber as a lamp.

Use the light, Luke!
