MMO Gaming Mouse Designed for Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft

SteelSeries, manufacturer of professional gaming peripherals, announced a new MMO gaming mouse co-developed with Blizzard Entertainment. With a unique exterior that evokes the armored plating of Deathwing the Destroyer, the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm MMO Gaming Mouse delivers superior ergonomics and an intuitive button layout with advanced gaming functionality.

“Since the release of the original World of Warcraft MMO Gaming Mouse in 2008, we’ve received feedback from thousands of World of Warcraft players on how they’ve customized their World of Warcraft mice and what they would like us to do next,” said Bruce Hawver, SteelSeries CEO. “The new Cataclysm mouse is the result of that collaboration: it provides a wide range of customization options and delivers a more comfortable, intuitive, and ultimately better experience.”

Mouse Features

The new Gaming Mouse has a 14-button layout. Its design provides players with the ability to comfortably use all the extended buttons. Macros and controls can be assigned to all buttons directly from within the game. Together with its 16-million color illumination options, 4 pulsation levels, the ability to save up to 10 character-linked profiles in the software and 1 profile directly on the mouse, players have a wide range of options to customize their gaming experience.

The drag and drop software empowers players to:

  • Program all 14 buttons with more than 130 preset game commands
  • Create custom macros and/or use the in-game macro scripting language

Donkey Kong

Every time someone breaks the Donkey Kong record, you think this one is for keeps. It seems amazing that anyone can still improve this game’s high score.

According to Twin Galaxies, the official site for arcade player rankings, the World Record on the classic arcade game Donkey Kong has changed hands for the third time this year, as former champion Steve Wiebe climbs back into the top spot with a score of 1,064,500 points.

“Wiebe last held the Donkey Kong record in spring of 2007, only to be bested by his movie rival Billy Mitchell months later.  Mitchell’s score fell to New York’s Hank Chien in March of this year, but the Florida hot sauce distributor regained the title on July 31 with a score of 1,062,800 points”, says the article on Twin Galaxies.

1,064,500 points seems like an amazing score. I wonder how long it’s going to last.

Castle Wars is Back – Cooler than Ever

June 13th, 2010

The original Castle Wars game on Kongregate is one of the first games I’ve played on the site – and one of my favorites.

Castle Wars is a tactical card game, in which you have to use different resources and weapons, in order to build your castle or destroy the enemy’s castle.

And now we have Castle Wars 2 – which is basically the same game, but with new features, better graphics and cooler sounds.

The objective remains the same – destroy the enemy’s castle or build your own to a level of 100 – that’s how you win the battle. Each card represents a different resource, attack, defense or action. You have magical attacks and defenses, cards that build your castle, cards that steal and sabotage the enemy and many different vicious attack cards.

The use of each card is dependent on the amount of resources you have. For example, you need bricks in order to build a wall to defend your castle. Bricks and other resources are created automatically each turn – but your enemy can steal or sabotage them.

Castle Wars 2 now gives you the option to campaign and go after several castles. You can also practice, change the composition of the card deck and go against other gamers in the multi-player option.

The element of luck plays a part in the game, but planning and strategy will usually help you more on your way to victory. I find the AI a tad stupid sometimes, which makes the game a bit too easy. I guess that’s what the multi-player mode is for.

Castle Wars is a great casual game, which is also perfect for playing at the office (single player mode, at least) – it’s not time limited, and your opponent will wait until you are ready to make the next move. Here’s a little clip of Castle Wars 2 gameplay I created (in which I win, of course :P ):
